EDP, a global player in renewable energy development, has successfully participated in a land auction to enter into exclusive negotiations with landowners for the development and construction of over 200 MW of wind energy in Germany, through EDP Renewables. This represents EDP’s first move into wind power in the country, where the company already has solar projects under construction.
Earlier in 2025, EDP participated in a land auction organized by Caeli Wind, a cloud-based platform that identifies wind potential sites, for the Uelzen-Suderburg project in Lower Saxony. The auction was successful, and EDP has already signed land lease agreements with the new partners to develop the project in an area of about 2,700 ha.
The awarded land includes a potential for a project of up to 38 wind turbines, totalling an estimated installed capacity of around 219 MW. Once operational, the wind farm is expected to deliver over 475 GWh of clean energy annually to the region, which is equivalent to supplying the electricity demand of close to 150,000 households, while avoiding over 330,000 emissions of CO2 annually. The project is scheduled to be operational towards the end of 2030.
“This is an important step in our ambition to establish a multi-technology presence in renewables in Germany. We already have two utility-scale solar projects and two distributed generation projects in advanced stages of construction in the country, and a significant pipeline for the coming years. Being awarded with this project will strengthen our presence in the wind sector and will allow us to keep contributing to the energy transition in Germany”,
says Duarte Bello, CEO of EDP in Europe.
EDP entered the German market in 2022 through the acquisition of local company Kronos Solar EDPR. Since then, Germany has become a core growth market for the group.
