VERBUND is Austria’s leading energy company and one of Europe’s largest hydroelectric power generators. With more than 130 hydroelectric power stations – 22 of which are in Germany – VERBUND meets around 40% of Austria’s electricity demand; in Bavaria, it supplies over 2 million households and businesses.
Growing with wind and sun
VERBUND has ambitious growth targets for renewables: by 2030, 25% of the generation are to come from wind and solar power. The subsidiary VERBUND Green Power Deutschland relies on close cooperation with local authorities and partners to further expand solar and wind power in Germany. The aim is to jointly develop projects, implement them reliably and operate them successfully in the long term. This creates renewable energy that not only supplies electricity but also generates tangible added value locally.
In the wind energy market, VERBUND Green Power is represented by wind farms in Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and Lower Saxony; two further wind farms in North Rhine-Westphalia are currently under construction. In addition, projects with a planned installed capacity of more than one gigawatt are under development and are due to be completed by 2030.
