Ramboll acquires two German onshore wind energy consultancies
BBB Umwelttechnik is a Germany-based technical consultancy and project management firm, focused on sustainable and renewable energy. The firm, founded in 1996, is focused primarily on wind-energy projects – from feasibility studies to measuring wind speeds – although the firm also performs studies for biomass and solar energy projects.
Cube Engineering began operation 25 years ago, founded by Stefan Chun, then as Ingenieurbuero Chun. In the intervening years the company, which provides renewable energy engineering and consultancy, has enjoyed international expansion (80% of its revenues are internationally derived) and now has more than 70 staff. The engineering company is strong across the field of renewable energy solutions, with specialisation in onshore wind.
Ramboll has for years been active in the offshore wind sector, where it claims to have designed 65% of the turbine foundations to date – including the SPIC Binhai North Phase 2 Offshore Wind Farm. Demand for onshore wind, which is one of the most cost effective forms of renewable energy, continues to rise however – and to strengthen the firm’s propositions in onshore wind, particularly for large projects, the consultancy has decided to fully acquire both BBB Umwelttechnik and Cube Engineering. The value of the deals has not been disclosed.
Ramboll Energy managing director Thomas Rand, says, "With the acquisition of BBB and Cube, we will become a one-stop-shop player within onshore wind with a full-service offering within the value chain of wind energy projects and sufficient resources to take on large wind projects.”
